Dear Friends

Zygmunt Bauman, the well-known philosopher and sociologist, gave an interesting interview to Tomasz Kwasniewski published in Gazeta Wyborcza on 9th February. It elaborates the broader impact of the crisis on society - something which may affect all of our engagement and work in the future, and we hope you will enjoy the English translation we provide here: Bauman - End of the Orgy. Our second reading piece is Divided demands by Milla Mineva, discussing the power of small groups gathering for ad-hoc activity to create social change -  also that a burning issue on the agenda of global civil society.

The Civil Society Forum which will discuss many related issues on 16-18th September 2009 in Bratislava, is coming together. We hope the two day program may offer something interesting for all, and are publishing a very first outline of the conference program as well as information on how to participate. Soon to come is the launch of a Civil Society Forum contest for young activists and their essays, photos and film clips of civic activism, as well as the Social Innovation Camp CEE – a parallel event to the Forum where social entrepreneurs meet technology and other business experts to develop ideas, and the Civil Society Forum own website.

Another meeting is coming up on related issues, organized in connection with the Czech presidency of the EU - check out the “Europe of Engaged Citizens – Resources and Sustainability” which will take place in Brno, Czech Republic on 4th-5th May.

As always we look much forward to your feedback and ideas: forum@ceetrust.org

Best spring greetings,
